Frequently asked questions
Getting started
Do I need an app or an account?
No app — it's a website that works on any phone. You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time code; the first time we'll ask your name. There's no password to remember.
Is it free?
Yes. Joining, reporting, planting and redeeming are all free. Points can't be bought, only earned.
Where does it work?
Anywhere you can pin a location. The community is centred on Andhra Pradesh, but reports and trees can be logged from any place.
Why does it want my location?
Every report, tree and planting spot is placed on the community map so volunteers can find them. Tap the target icon to use your phone's GPS, or just type an address and we'll locate it. We only store the coordinates of the things you log, never a track of where you go.
Photos and verification
Why do I have to verify a photo?
An AI model looks at each photo before you submit — is this really a pile of waste, a planted sapling, a cleared site? It fills in the type and estimate for you and keeps the points honest. It only sees the photo you choose to upload.
The verification rejected my photo. What now?
Take a clearer shot: the whole pile or the whole tree in frame, in daylight, from a couple of metres away. Screenshots, drawings and indoor photos are rejected on purpose.
Can I edit the type or amount the AI filled in?
For waste the AI's answer is used as-is so reports stay comparable. For trees you can correct the species, height and health before saving.
Trees
How often should I check in on a tree?
Whenever you like, but points are awarded for at most one check-in every 7 days per tree. Extra check-ins are still saved to the tree's history.
What are milestones?
Bonuses for keeping a tree alive: 1 month (+25), 3 months (+50), 6 months (+75), 1 year (+150). They're paid on the first check-in you log after the tree reaches that age, so a tree only earns a milestone if you're still looking after it.
What if my tree dies?
Mark it as dead in a check-in. The tree is closed, it earns nothing further, and it still counts in your history — replanting is always welcome.
What is a planting spot?
A place someone has photographed and pinned as suitable for a tree: a roadside strip, a school compound, a riverbank. Suggesting one earns 20 points; every time another member plants there you get 15 more. Planting at your own spot earns the tree points but no spot bonus.
Waste
Can I collect a pile I reported myself?
No — reporting and collecting are separate roles so the points can't be doubled up. Anyone else can pick it up, and you'll be notified when they do.
What does 'in progress' mean on a report?
A volunteer has pressed Start collection and is on their way. They can release it back to the queue if plans change. Once they upload a verified after-photo it becomes Collected.
Where should collected waste go?
Your nearest municipal collection point or ward bin. Add the drop-off location in the notes when you mark it collected.
Points, rewards and ranking
How are points calculated?
Every earning event is recorded as a transaction; your balance is what you've earned minus what you've redeemed. The full table is on this page and on the Rewards page.
Does redeeming a reward lower my leaderboard rank?
No. The leaderboard ranks lifetime points earned, so spending never costs you a place.
How do I collect a reward I redeemed?
Each redemption appears under My redemptions on the Rewards page with its status. You'll get a notification with pickup details when it's ready.
What are cheers?
A quick way to encourage another member from their profile — pick a message and send. They get a notification, and the cheer shows on their profile and the leaderboard. One cheer per person per day.
